Paradise: A National Gallery Touring Exhibition in partnership with Bristol Museums & Art Gallery and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Saturday 18 January - Sunday 30 March 2003
'Paradise' includes works by some of the world's best-loved artists. The exhibition shows how they created images of paradise or of an ideal world.
Renaissance paintings are shown alongside works by Claude Poussin. There are gardens and ideal landscapes including Constable's 'The Cornfield' . Personal paradises are created by Monet, Gauguin, Rothko and Cris Ofili. The exhibition is accompanied by poetry and artwork by local people exploring their ideas of `paradise.
